Two-Day Bookbinding Experience – Saturday & Sunday, July 11-12, 10am–2pm
Create a sketchbook that feels as timeless as it looks. Over two creative sessions, you’ll learn how to hand-stitch a beautiful leather-bound horizontal sketchbook — a tactile keepsake designed to open flat, making it ideal for sketching, journaling, and mixed-media art.
The cover of your book will be lined with your own upcycled art canvas, transforming an old or unwanted painting into something entirely new. Each participant will need to bring along one stretched or unstretched canvas that they’re ready to repurpose. The rest of the materials, including leather, paper, thread, and binding tools, are provided.
During the workshop, you’ll explore the art of straight stitching, a strong and elegant binding method that allows the pages to lie flat. I’ll guide you through preparing your signatures, sewing the binding, and assembling your cover so you can continue to make your own journals at home.
Held at The Shed Studio, Wattle Cottage, Gillen’s Creek Garden, Alloway, this intimate two-day event offers the perfect blend of learning, creativity, and relaxation. You’ll enjoy a delicious charcuterie lunch and barista coffee each day while surrounded by the peaceful sounds and scents of the garden.
